Black Oxide is a chemical surface conversion of metals forming an integral protective surface, while maintaining the dimensional integrity of the part. Along with a post treatment, corrosion resistance of 72 to 144 salt spray hours is possible.

Tatham Shamrock Schulz, Inc. was incorporated on November 10, 1981 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1993, the corporate name was changed to Tatham Schulz, Inc. All partners work full time in the day to day management of the company.
Tatham Schulz, Inc. began by purchasing the Cleveland Black Oxide Division from the Great Lakes Heating Company. Cleveland Black Oxide moved from its original plant location on E. 79th Street to its present location in 1985. In 1987, a major office renovation was completed in addition to new processing lines being installed. In February of 1994, a new addition of 9000 square feet was added bringing the total plant size to 21,000 square feet.
Cleveland Black Oxide is one of the oldest and most recognized metal finishers in Northeast Ohio. Its history can be traced back to the early 1940's. In general, Cleveland Black Oxide is recognized as a quality metal finishing company that is exceptionally responsive to customers needs.
The company is a privately owned corporation.
In August of 1998 Cleveland Black Oxide became the first Black Oxide Company in the United States to become ISO 90001:1994 registered. Cleveland Black Oxide has since upgraded its registration to ISO 9001:2000.
In 2005 Cleveland Black Oxide installed new state of the art processing tanks with a unique energy efficient burner system for added processing capacity.
